In his post, Mr Daryani expressed disappointment, asking, "What are they teaching at the IITs?" He also pointed out that this wasn't the first experience with an IIT alumnus who lacked integrity.

Startup founder Angad Daryani recently claimed that a candidate from one of India's top institutes who had applied for a job at his company did know about 95% of the things he mentioned in his resume. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mr Daryani, whose startup is building an advanced filterless air purification system, claimed that he was interviewing candidates for a job opening at his company when he came across a candidate from IIT Kharagpur who claimed to have "four offers" from different firms and listed "100 things on his resume".

Mr Daryani claimed that the IIT graduate "didn't actually know 95% of the things on his resume".

The post was shared on April 1 and quickly became one of the most viral posts on X, sparking a discussion in the comments section. However, a day later, Mr Daryani deleted his post, claiming that it "become IIT bashing rather than what it was intended to be".

"I have deleted this post from Twitter (X), because it's become IIT bashing rather than what it was intended to be," he said.

"I simply wanted to encourage the propagation of integrity and honesty during the recruiting process, and hold colleges accountable/request them to look into what their students are representing to the world outside. Resume making and representation is a key part of the career cells of colleges and affects the colleges reputation, I remember when I was at Georgia Institute of Technology we had specific sessions on this. For any college cell here, pro-bono, happy to be helpful if/where I can," he added.

Mr Daryani also added that it was a "slip up" from him as the student, he claimed, turns out to be from IIT Kanpur and not its Kharagpur counterpart.

"With regards to the candidate, it was my slip up looking at the IITK email address, the candidate was from the Kanpur campus and not Kharagpur campus, nonetheless we still spoke with him, have encouraged him to clean up his resume, learn few more things and write back to us to be re-evaluated as a mechanical engineer and not a mix of every engineer - I spoke with him personally," he added.

Responding to the now deleted viral post, IIT Kharagpur said that Mr Daryani "maligned" the reputation of IIT Kharagpur.

"Mr Angad Daryani, Founder & CEO of Praan has maligned the reputation of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur through a social media post. He highlighted a candidate's inefficacy during a recruitment process and humiliated him on a public platform. He quoted the student is from IIT Kharagpur whereas later he admitted his mistake and mentioned that the student is from IIT Kanpur in his tweet," IIT Kharagpur said in a statement.
